Thoughtfully chosen ingredients
Every Ember & Folk soap begins with a carefully considered blend of plant-based oils and butters, chosen for their contribution to a beautiful bar. Clays, botanicals and other additions bring their own colour, texture and character.
Our oils & butters
Olive Oil
Contributes to a firm bar after curing, with a low, creamy lather. A cornerstone of our soap recipes.
Coconut Oil
Brings cleansing, hardness and a generous, bubbly lather. Blended with our other oils and butters, it helps create a satisfying everyday bar.
Shea Butter
A rich, plant-derived butter that contributes firmness and creaminess, adding a velvety quality to the lather.
Castor Oil
Used in small amounts to support and stabilise lather, helping create a creamy foam.
Our clays & natural colourants
Kaolin Clay
A fine white clay that brings a soft, creamy appearance and a smooth quality to soap.
French Pink Clay
Gives selected soaps their delicate, earthy pink tones, adding understated colour and a finely textured finish.
French Green Clay
Brings muted green tones and an earthy character to our soaps, creating soft layers and natural-looking colour.
Activated Charcoal
A finely milled black powder that creates striking charcoal tones, from soft grey to deep black.
Indigo Powder
A botanical colourant used for shades of blue, from soft denim to deep indigo. Natural variations give each bar individuality.
Spirulina Powder
A blue-green algae used for botanical green tones. Its colour can soften and change as the soap ages.
Turmeric Powder
Adds warm yellow and earthy golden tones, bringing a little sunshine to selected bars.
Cocoa Powder
Creates warm, earthy brown tones, adding visual depth and a rustic character to soap.
Other thoughtful additions
Colloidal Oatmeal
Finely milled oats used in selected recipes, including our oat milk and honey bar.
Oat Milk
A creamy, plant-based milk used in selected recipes, including our oat milk and honey bar.
Honey
Adds natural sugars that can help boost lather, along with a warm, golden character.
Poppy Seeds
Tiny botanical seeds that provide scrubby texture and a naturally speckled appearance.
Coffee Grounds
Add a satisfying scrubby texture to our coffee soap, alongside brewed espresso and decorative coffee beans.
Chamomile & Other Botanicals
Dried flowers and botanicals bring colour, texture and handmade charm. Each addition complements the character of its bar.
Our oils and butters become soap through saponification, when they react with sodium hydroxide to form soap and glycerine. Water and sodium lactate also play a part in our recipes. Selected bars are scented with essential oils, while others have no added fragrance or essential oils.
Ingredients vary from bar to bar. Please see each soap’s individual ingredient list for the full details.
